GPKT Activity Update 8

GPKT Project Skills Training December 2004

With the objectives of increasing capacity and skills for cross-border community project work in the GPKT micro-region, EWI organised training in basic project management skills for members of the GPKT Education Committee, the GPKT Women’s Working Group and the GPKT Youth Council in December 2005.

Participants came from the different ethnic groups of the four GPKT municipalities, Gjilan/Gnjilane, Presevo, Kumanovo and Trgoviste, and were a mixture of ethnicities, ages and genders.

From 14 to 17 December in the Gjilan / Gnjilane Didactic Centre, in overlapping sessions of two days according to Working Groups, a total of 65 participants were trained on:

Project planning – including the project cycle, SWOT analysis and partnerships

Project development – including objective setting and proposal drafting

Project implementation and management – including leadership, motivation and team work, launching projects and communications

Dealing with donors and reporting – including donor relationships, criteria and application, reporting and basic principles of financial reporting

Monitoring and evaluation – including monitoring systems, progress review and reaching targets.

The training was delivered primarily by the Pristina-based Management and Development Associates, with the support and additional facilitation of EWI staff. Simultaneous translation was provided in Albanian, English, and Serbian / Macedonian, and smaller group-work sessions were multi-lingual and facilitated by ‘whispering’ translation if necessary.

Participants evaluated the training with a 4.9 average score (out of 5), and the vast majority of participants expressed great satisfaction with the way the training had been run and the skills they had gained.

With the development of these additional skills in the four GPKT communities, EWI will continue to continuing to work with the GPKT Working Groups on various initiatives, including further capacity-building, and also with broader GPKT civil society through the EWI / SEE Change micro-grant programme, launched to fund cross-border projects in the micro-region.
