Brief Description of the GPKT Project
|
|
The overall objective of the GPKT Project is to foster sustainable
inter-ethnic and cross-border practices for systematic co-operation in the
Gjilan/Gnjilane-Presevo-Kumanovo-Trgoviste (GPKT) micro-region. This is
seen as a concrete underpinning to promoting security and co-operation in
the wider region, regardless of the final status of Kosovo. The GPKT
Project began in the field in Spring 2003, , with the second phase of the
Project starting in December 2005 and running until May 2008,
supported by the EWI offices in Gjilan/Gnjilane (Kosovo), Skopje
(Macedonia) and Vranje (Serbia).

GPKT Media Working Group
|
|
Following consultation meetings in early 2004,
the GPKT Media Working Group was established in June 2004 with the
aim of formalising working relations among media organisations in
the GPKT region, as transfrontier co-operation among the various
media would not only serve this particular sector but would also be
crucial for the success or failure of any transfrontier co-operation
activity. The Working Group members, primarily television station
directors and chief editors, decided to regularly exchange
information, transfer experience and work together to identify
priority initiatives for media in the micro-region.

ethnicities in the GPKT area.

municipal education officials, and parents who are linked to various
kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools from all of the four

GPKT Youth Council
|
|
Born out of meetings in early 2004, the Youth
Working Group enthusiastically established itself as the GPKT Youth
Council at its December 2004 meeting. Including young people from
all four municipalities and ethnic groups, between 16 and 22 years
of age, the Youth Council has attracted many who are already
involved in the work of youth NGOs or similar initiatives.
